Indian seamer Jaydev Unadkat will play for Sussex
While Pujara captained Sussex last season, it will be Unadkat’s first stint with the county, making it a rare instance of two Indian players representing the same team on the English domestic circuit.
Indian left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat will join his Saurashtra team-mate Cheteshwar Pujara in Sussex for three matches in the County Championship in September.
Unadkat played for India in the Two-Test series against the West Indies last month. “Jaydev will be available for selection for the matches against Durham, Leicestershire and Derbyshire as Sussex look to secure promotion to the top flight,” Sussex said in a statement.

“The English County League has a wonderful heritage and I wanted to take the opportunity whenever I can and it seems like the right time for me at this point in my career,” said Unadkat.
“I hope to add to the laurels that my dear friend and teammate, Cheteshwar has added in abundance while representing Sussex over the past two seasons, and most importantly helping the team win games,” he added.
Unadkat joining Sussex also effectively rules him out of contention for the Asia Cup, which will follow the 50-over World Cup.
It was earlier reported by PTI that left-armer Unadkat was in contention for a place in India’s 15-man squad for the World Cup – along with Shardul Thakur – but signing up with the English side puts an end to the debate.
Additionally, there is a direct clash in the dates of the matches Unadkat is set to play for Sussex and India’s next assignment – the Asia Cup – which will be held from August 30 to September 17.

Sussex will play Durham from September 6-9, Leicestershire from September 10-13 and Derbyshire from September 19-22.
It also hints that the 31-year-old Unadkat, who has also captained Saurashtra, is seen as a red-ball specialist and could return to India’s Test series bid in South Africa at the end of the year.
Sussex, currently coached by former England assistant manager Paul Farbrace, will be looking for promotion to the top division of the Provincial Championship.
