The International Cricket Council on Saturday unveiled the mascots for the 2023 Cricket World Cup. The two characters, a man and a woman, were dressed in futuristic costumes and hail from the Crictoverse, according to an ICC press release.

Additionally, fans will now be able to name these two characters by visiting the link and giving their entries till August 27, the release further said.

The two characters representing distinct qualities emerging as symbols of gender equality and diversity were unveiled at an event in the presence of the winning women’s and men’s under-19 captains, Shafali Verma and Yash Dhull.

This time, the organizers have clearly gone for a newer vibe with the characters, moving away from the usual animal designs and other related designs when representing India’s 50 over extravaganza, such as Stumpy the Elephant during the 2011 World Cup and the Googlee cricket ball that had arms and legs and was dressed in a helmet, gloves and pads in 1996.

For example, the ICC release described the female mascot of the upcoming World Cup as a character “with a turbo-powered arm that propels fireballs at lightning speed, the pinpoint accuracy of the female character leaves even the most daring in awe. Her unparalleled reflexes, fierce agility and fervent determination make her a supercharged bowling talent. Adorned with a belt that carries six cricket balls, each strategically prepared for various game-changing tactics, she is always ready to set the game on fire.”

Meanwhile, the male character was described as “exuding an unmistakable mix of sub-zero chill and high-voltage batting prowess. His every shot, from sneaky finesse to seam-crushing stunts, resonates with an electrifying power that captivates the audience. His electrifying bat and versatile repertoire amp up the excitement, lighting up the stage and electrifying the crunch with every hit.”

The event featured a 3D anamorphic video screen that revealed the origins of the mascots and their journey to participate in the World Cup. Attendees were treated to an immersive hyper-visual experience, through optical illusions that interact with both on-site and remote audiences, the press release further stated.
