BMW Championship Odds and Expert Picks for the 2023 FedExCup Playoffs
The penultimate event of the 2023 PGA Tour season is this week’s BMW Championship. It’s the second leg of the FedExCup playoffs, and Olympia Fields Country Club, south of Chicago, is playing host for the first time since 2020, when Jon Rahm made a dramatic 66-foot putt in a playoff victory over Dustin Johnson.
- Course: Olympia Fields Country Club
- Yardage: 7,366 yards, Par 70
- Location: Olympia Fields, Illinois
- Dates: August 17-20, 2023
Basic statistics and course format
The classic, tree-lined parks course is expected to play steady and fast. The more heavily contoured greens make putting premium on Poa/Bentgrass a prerequisite for success as players shoot for a top prize of $3.6 million of the $20 million prize pool.
Just 50 players are still in contention for the massive $18 million payday awarded to the winner of next week’s Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

FedEx Cup Playoffs Overview and Eligibility
Tommy Fleetwood is up to No. 10 in the FedExCup rankings and is confident of breaking into the top 30 and playing in next week’s Tour Championship in Atlanta. Fleetwood has yet to win on the PGA Tour, but remains in great form with his 22nd career top-5 finish last week at the FedEx St. Louis Championship. Jude. That’s the most top-5s by any player on the PGA Tour without a win in the last 40 years, according to PGA Tour stats guru Justin Ray.
A better than 50% chance of rain is in the forecast for Thursday morning at Olympia Fields. Temperatures near 80 degrees and higher into the weekend with sunny skies and light winds as the top contenders shoot for Saturday and Sunday.

Beyond the top favorites and most punters this week, I’m tipping Tyrrell Hatton to win and finish in the top-10. Despite not being ranked in the top-15 of this week’s PGA Tour Power Rankings, Hatton fits the bill with supporting stats this week. The 31-year-old Englishman has won at least 2 shutouts in nine consecutive starts. It is among the best in the field in the long run when putting bent/poa greens and has a proven performance profile when playing firm and fast golf courses. Hatton will still be the main player to bet on in select tournament matches.
