Jasprit Bumrah is set to make a comeback as we look at the confirmed best squad and player list for Team India for Asia Cup 2023.

After a successful 3-match ODI series against West Indies winning 2-1, the Indian ODI team has its eyes on its next big assignment, the Asia Cup 2023. The Asia Cup 2023 starts on 30th August and the Indian team will play their full squad as a prelude to the 2023 ODI World Cup.

The West Indies ODI series saw the Indian team playing almost a second fiddle team. Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma experimented a lot during the series with many players being rested or injured for the tour. However, Team India may not experiment with a big tournament like Asia Cup.

But the main question facing Team India is the availability of their key players. Many players are still recovering from injuries, and it is a big task ahead of the selectors. Batters and WKs: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli, Ishan Kishan (week) & Sanju Samson (week)

The biggest headache for the Indian team would be the availability of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer for Asia Cup 2023. If these two get fit in a month, then they should immediately break into the team as first choice middle order batting and wicket – guard respectively.

In that case, Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson will have to make way for Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul for the Asia Cup 2023 squad. But things are not looking too bright from Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul’s perspective . Had he been in contention for the 2023 Asia Cup, he would have been part of Ireland’s T20 series squad, along with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna.

Since neither of these two are part of the squad for the Ireland T20 series, it is a clear indication that Team India is considering Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson as part of the squad for the role of finisher and middle-order wicketkeeper. respectively for the Asia Cup 2023.

Apart from these two, Ishan Kishan is expected to play the role of back-up wicket-keeper opener. Kishan impressed with a man-of-the-series performance against the West Indies, so he is a sure-fire player in the final 15. While Team India’s top 3 should consist of Captain Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli.

All-rounders: Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya & Ravindra Jadeja

For the All-rounders, India have only three options and with the conditions expected to help the spinners, India will have to play both Jadeja and Axar Patel. Both Axar and Jadeja play a similar role, but with a dearth of options, these two will have to play. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya will be the only all-rounder in the squad.

Spinners: Kuldeep Yadav & Yuzvendra Chahal

Coming to the spin department, the KulCha combination should be the first choice spinner for Team India. Both have played regular ODIs for Team India under Rohit Sharma and there doesn’t seem to be any chance of Ravichandran Ashwin being in the squad. These two will be well supported by Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel.

Pacers: Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj & Shardul Thakur

For the pace department, India would be delighted with the return of their leading paceman Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah is fit and is also part of Team India’s squad for the Ireland T20 series. The series will act as a good comeback practice for Bumrah. He will later join Team India’s squad for the 2023 Asia Cup.

Apart from Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj should also return for Asia Cup 2023 after being rested for the ODI series against West Indies. But both of them are India’s main pacers and Team India would need them for Asia Cup 2023. Apart from these three, Shardul Thakur will have to play the role of the fourth pacer in the team.

Talking about the standbys, India should have Ruturaj Gaikwad as a backup opener, Umran Malik as a backup pacer and probably Ravi Bishnoi as a backup spinner. These three may be part of the reserves for Team India and will fly to Sri Lanka only if any of the 15 players available gets injured.

Well, this is the final XI for India’s squad for Asia Cup 2023. In total, 13 players are sure to be in the final 15. The only debatable options will be based on the injury update for Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul. If both are fit, they will get a nod ahead of Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson.
