This is the third and final week of the FedExCup Playoffs with just 30 players on the field this week at East Lake. The Tour Championship will also use the following starting turns format:
Championship Round Seed | Golfer(s). | Start of Championship Round |
---|---|---|
1 | Scotty Sheffler | -10 |
2 | Victor Hovland | -8 |
3 | Rory McIlroy | -7 |

Scotty Sheffler will start at -10, and is the betting favorite in East Lake at +162 in the open at bet365. Although Scheffler entered Sunday’s BMW Championship in a tie for second, he starts the event with a two-shot lead for the second year in a row as he passed Jon Rahm in Chicago for first place in the FedExCup standings. He has 16 top-10 finishes on the season and has been the best golfer from blues to greens this season.
There are 31 golfers who have won 50+ strokes from tee to green in 2023.
Only three golfers have won 100+.
Scottie Scheffler is the only one to win over 125+ and he actually won 214.41.

Rory McIlroy will start three strokes behind Scheffler and the Northern Irishman has the second-lowest odds of picking up his fourth FedExCup at +350. His solo fourth-place finish in the BMW Championship was his ninth consecutive top-nine finish. Last year, McIlroy erased a six-shot deficit in the final round of the Tour Championship as Scheffler shot a three-over 73, while McIlroy carded a four-under 66 to win the FedExCup by a stroke.
Victor Hovland, who is coming off an incredible win at the BMW Championship where he shot a 7-under 28 on the back nine, has the third-lowest odds to win his first FedExCup at +450. The Norwegian is playing in his fourth consecutive Tour Championship and has finished as high as fifth before 2021. He jumped from seventh to second in the FedExCup standings after his victory at Olympia Fields Country Club.
John Rahm is the fourth-lowest odds to win this week at +750 as he dropped from first to fourth in the FedExCup standings after his T31 result in the BMW Championship. Rahm is making his seventh consecutive Tour Championship appearance and has finished as runner-up in 2021. The Spaniard’s four wins are the most on the PGA Tour this season, including a major championship win at the Masters.
Lucas Glover he is the last golfer to start within five strokes of Scheffler, and enters at +4000 to win his first FedExCup. Glover’s significant success in recent months has seen him make his first Tour Championship start since 2019 and just his second appearance since 2009. Glover’s back-to-back wins at the Wyndham Championship and the FedEx St. Jude Championship helped him break out of the top 100 The FedExCup standings into the top five.
Lesson preview
East Lake Golf Club is a 7,346-yard par-70 with two par-5s, four par-3s and 12 par-4s. Eight of the 12 par-4s are at least 440 yards, but both par-5s are under 600 yards.
Tom Bendelow designed East Lake in 1904 and Donald Ross completely revised the course in 1913. Rees Jones, son of renowned golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, added further renovations in 1994, 2008 and 2016 and Andrew Green will complete a “nice renovation” right after this week’s Tour Championship.
East Lake is the oldest golf course in Atlanta and has been home to the Tour Championship since 2004.
The course features bermudagrass and 2.5 inch rough bermudagrass, while the fairways are zoysiagrass. In total, there are 74 bunkers at East Lake and water plays on six of the 18 holes.
